A Beautiful Relaxed Wedding at The Titanic Hotel Belfast

Nicola + Paul’s Titanic Hotel Belfast Wedding

Short Film

Tell us all about you! What do you do? How do you spend your free time? What's important in life?

Nicola works in IT consulting and Paul in pharmaceutical services. In his free time Paul likes watching films and eating (lots of) chocolate - and as a result he tolerates exercise and is in training for a half marathon at the minute. After several failed attempts at couch-2-5k Nicola is more of a walker than a runner and loves being by the sea. She also enjoys trying to make our house a home but that just involves a lot of failed DIY attempts more than anything else to be honest. Also a big fan of a cup of tea. Paul doesn't drink tea (?!?!?!) but is now very good at making it after years of practice. We're easily pleased - what is important to us is friends and family and spending time with them doing things we like. We are big fans of eating out and having the occasional drink, and have been fortunate enough to travel to some cool places together.

Why did you decide to capture your Titanic Hotel wedding on video?

Anyone we spoke to who didn't get a videographer regretted it. Coming out of COVID (kinda), the most important thing to us on the day is spending time with friends and family we haven't seen in so long, and having those memories to look back on is something I'm sure we will treasure.

Why did you choose Amber Tree Filmhouse to film your wedding?

Our photographer Nicola Ross recommended you and when we watched your videos we loved how you capture the emotion of peoples' wedding days - something that attracted us to Nicola too. It was also important to us that she has someone she works well with on the day as we really love her work too.

Tell me all about the proposal! Spare no detail, I want to hear it all!

Paul meticulously planned a lovely proposal by the sea (because as previously mentioned, Nicola loves the sea). To ensure secrecy, Paul wore a pair of cargo shorts with big deep pockets to hide the ring. It being a very nice day, and Nicola being prone to the odd bit of sunstroke, she brought a bottle of water with her. Upon venturing to a chippy, Nicola decided more liquids were needed and bought some fanta. With 2 hands and 3 items to carry - water, fanta, and of course chips - Nicola tried to place the water bottle in one of Paul's big deep pockets. To Paul's horror. He instinctively recoiled and due to Nicola's, let's say inquisitive nature the jig was indeed up. We then proceeded to walk around awkwardly eating chips for 20 minutes until Paul unsurprisingly proposed by the sea. Which is unfortunate cause if we weren't greedy having ice cream and chips then Nicola would have been very surprised indeed. To add insult to injury, the ring didn't fit. Cue a mad dash to the jewellers half an hour before it was due to shut on a hot Sunday afternoon. It being a hot day Nicola's hands were fatter than usual - but sure isn't that another story about how we didn't tell anyone we were engaged for a good week while the ring was getting resized for the second time...

Why did you choose the Titanic Hotel as your venue? What made it special to you?

Nicola is from Coleraine and Paul is from the Derrynoose, and Belfast (where we live) is pretty much in the middle. Lots of our friends live in Belfast and we didn't want everyone to have to travel any great distance (except our immediate families who will all have to travel the same distance to get to Belfast!) If that all sounds rather boring and practical it's because we're fairly boring and practical people! As for the Titanic itself the room is a beautiful space and hopefully we can get some images/video of us in Cathedral Quarter where we went for our first date all those years ago too.
